4.9.11

1:04 am

(I guess technically this was taken on April 10th, but I am calling it April 9th.) Thomas turned 21 y'all! In celebration, we went out to celebrate at the finest that Water Street and Old World Third Street had to offer.  We drank, we danced and we drank a little more.  A funny sidenote: Tom wears plaid shirts like the one is fashioning in this picture often.  Meghan thought it would be great if we all wore plaid shirts to be just like him.  Such a great idea, so I came to Milwaukee armed with my favorite plaid shirt of the moment.  However, when I got to Meghan's, it turned out it was basically the same one she was wearing. Sooo, I ended up nixing the plaid shirt so as not to be twins with Meghan (because people mistake us for twins all the time.....yeah right.)  Thomas, Meghan and Taylor certainly nailed the plaid shirt theme though.

This was my actual bday (the big one).  Meghan and Thomas came up to celebrate with me.  Meghan and I started off by getting pedicures, then had lunch, followed by a little dessert at my fave, Red Mango!

Meghan got THE CALL on a Tuesday that she had 4 tickets to see Oprahhhhhh! Meghan and I were lucky enough to attend a taping a few years ago, but this was still really exciting. I mean, when Oprah calls, you drop everything and go to her...especially because this is her last season, ya know? Following suit, I promptly and without question skipped class on Wednesday night and took the day off on Thursday to go to Chicago. To get to the 9am taping, it was suggested to us to get there at 7am...which meant we had to leave Milwaukee at 4:30am! If you are doing the math, that meant I had to wake up at 3:30am. Basically, I shouldnt have even gone to sleep because I could hardly sleep anyway from being so anxious!

The topic of the show we saw was the 25th anniversary of Love Story. Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal were the guests. It was a sweet, heart warming kind of show....and a great experience. Oprah was as fab as you would imagine.

A really cool part of the day happened after the taping though. We wanted our picture taken in front of the Harpo sign and asked some passerbys to take a picture of us. We made a little small talk with them (2 girls about my age and an older man) and it turned out the man worked at Harpo and offered to take us inside for a backstage tour. Ummm, yes please! We got to see some cool things and got to hear some great stories. I'm so glad I got to go one more time before her show ends!

Rachel got married on July 24th! There were so many friends there, some I hadnt seen in years, so I spent little time taking pictures. Rach looked gorgeous though! Her dress was amazing (Jim Hjelm, I heard). They even had an "hora loca" later in the night. I found out that was what it was called after the fact. At the time, all I knew was all of a sudden everyone had crazy hats, noisemakers, fake mustaches, etc.

...and you know it's not a party unless Beyond the Booth is there! We partnered up with Meghan and Taylor for this gem:

Maxwell Street Days 2010! I realized this year that I think the sales just arent as good as they used to be. It is still a ton of fun though. I got a pair of Pumas for Jon and I at the store where this picture was taken for $30 each. Not a total steal, but about 50% off. Meg and I thought these hi-tops were pret-tay sweet.

This also marked the second year in a row that we missed watching the Paddle and Portage. Arrrrgghh! So maddening!

A practice in nail polish comparisons. I'm not sure about the names of the purple shades, but I know the right hand (Meghan's left) shows (from pinky to pointer) OPI You Don't Know Jacque, Essie Mink Muffs, OPI Over the Taupe and I believe OPI Somoan Sand.

I took this with my point and shoot - at night with no flash. Even though I am usually anti-flash, I think this might have been an instance where it could have been a good thing.

Another one turns the big 2-9. Only one more year in your 20's, Meghan! Live it up! I stopped by her birthday lunch to wish her a happy bday. Wouldn't you know this was one of the few times I didn't have either of my cameras with me though. That hardly ever happened this year surprisingly. Thankfully Emily had hers and I was able to get my pic of the day. Whew! Close one!

Meghan, Tom and I went to the Governor's mansion on Saturday to check out the decorations. (They have it open to the public a few Saturdays out of the year, I think). The decor was kind of lacking, but the mansion was gorgeous...obvi. We also met the First Lady and acted like fools taking dumb pictures like this one. ha!

From there, we shopped all over town, until we dropped. I should clarify. I big Meg & Tom adieu around 9pm and I continued to shop until midnight. MIDNIGHT, people! That is how late both Target and Old Navy were open.

Jon and I went to dinner with Meg and Taylor on Friday night. Meghan gladly obliged to be my subject for my pic of the day after this little project came up in our conversation.

I mentioned I still needed to take my pic that day and that maybe Meghan would like do be in it. She was all, "but you don't have your camera here"...and I was all, "who do you think I am? I have that thing with me ALL THE FREAKING TIME!" We then busted out with a kind of obnoxious series of pictures in a somewhat crowded restaurant. Some of the funniest ones were blurry because I was laughing I think, so this one won out.

As a side note, this is the first year in a while that we haven't gotten up super early for Black Friday shopping! Our partners in crime, Gina and Todd, weren't in town for Thanksgiving this year, which I think is the main reason we didn't go. It was pretty nice to sleep in...but something tells me we'll be back at it next year.

Meghan, Tom and I went to Pizzeria Piccola on Friday night. Gosh, I miss that place so much.

My visit on Friday made me miss a lot of things about "home" actually. I saw a lot of people from my childhood, had a hot fudge sundae with pecans from Gille's with two of my best grade school friends, hung out with Dre and to top it off, did some shopping with Meg at Mayfair.

Perhaps one day I will return for good...

7.18.09

Saturday was the most anticipated shopping weekend of my year. Maxwell Street Days. This year Meghan and Tom joined in the fun with Jon and me. The sale officially runs from Friday-Sunday, but word on the street (Nancy) is that some stores started on Thursday. What?! We were not 1, but 2 days behind all the greatest deals. I have taken note of this for next year.

Back to Saturday.

We used my camera as a mirror most of the day since everything is on the street and mirrors were hard to come by. I believe this was right after Meghan took her pants off in the middle of State Street to try on a dress actually. Yup. That would be correct. (tee hee hee)

As for this picture...it may need some explaining, right? Meghan is making a 'b' with her hand. You know, b for Bula (the brand of these hats). I mean, Bula is quite possibly the best hat brand around - didn't you know? You best run out and get yourself one. (side note: obviously the ASL Meghan and I learned in college didn't kick in right away, because it wasn't until after we took the picture that we realized this was not the correct sign for 'B'.)

We all came away with a lot of good loot. My best buy of the day were a pair of Asics for $40. Meghan's was probably her $35 Michael Kors flats. Tom's: an Adidas track jacket for $30 (?)...and Jon would argue his were some plaid Quicksilver loafer things, but I think his was a pair of Rainbow moccasins for $30.

Meghan and I checked out the new Five Guys at Bayshore for lunch on Saturday. I had been to this fine establishment many times before in Madison and Delafield, but it was Meghan's first time!

You can find my opinion of this joint here.

Her opinion: The fries were better than the burger...but she thought maybe she picked bad toppings. Sobelman's is still #1 in her burger book.

This is my friend Meghan (and her bro, Tom).

She is obsessed with pugs, but does not have one.

As I was taking this picture, she was saying, "If I owned this pug, I would totally trim his whiskers."

...and then Tom and I told her she was cra-zy. [lovingly of course :)]
